Welcome to Nez Perce land
Big skies and big stories await.
Nez Perce National Historical Park contains 38 sites across four states. The Park tells the story of the Nez Perce people and their flight as they were driven off their traditional lands in 1877. We visited both the Visitor Center outside Lewiston, Idaho, and the Big Hole National Battlefield near Wisdom, Montana.
I won't try to tell their stories here. That's best left to historians and the Nez Perce people themselves. Instead, I'll just write that visiting these kinds of sites is critical to understanding what it means to be American. The land was not granted to the white man by God or manifest destiny or anything else. It was taken.
So go to these places and learn our history. All the history.
