You can always make it harder

She knows it

Two little lakes high on the ridge. They're lovely. Isolated. Untouched. The perfect spot to spend a summer day under blue skies.

Except I decided to make it harder. I'm good at that.

There's a long road walk to get to the trail. Four miles of long walk. How could this have been easier? E-bike. Heck, even a regular chump bike (like bike I had in high school (and still have)) would have been a dream for the ride down. 2,400 feet of descent would have been better on two wheels instead of two feet.

At the end of the road there was another road. In contrast to the first road, the second road was much more like a trail. Like a trail completely overgrown with slide alder. That wanted to bite you. And it had rabies. On the way down I found a trail that cut across the roads. An honest-to-goodness trail that avoided all the terror of the road. And the thing about trails is they aren't one-way. I could have gone up that way.

Above all the road nonsense were the lakes. They sit on a little plateau. But without steep walls much of the plateau was swampy. And covered in wet snow. And it was raining. And windy. But take away the bad weather and firm up the snow and it would be awesome.

So if I'd gone on a better day, followed the trail, and brought a bike it would have been a far better day in the mountains. As it was, it was just another day in the mountains. But isn't that good enough?
