Beautiful
Right?
This was the last stop on our Midwest Roadtrip the day after Christmas. After a long day driving, it was a stretch to sign up for an underground tour. I shouldn't have worried. Everyone was up for getting down.
I must admit, it's a little weird that so many of the caves are privately owned. Sure, the NPS have the big one at Mammoth Caves National Park, but lots of other caves are run as tourist attractions. We previously visited Marengo Cave in Indiana and were stunned by it. (Out west, caves are almost all on public property in National Forests or NPS units like Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve, Lava Lands, or Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve.)
Ownership aside, wow.
In only an hour we saw so many amazing formations it boggles the mind. So many things I can't even describe them. So rather than me making something up, flip through the pics and visit Ohio Caverns.
📍On the lands of the Shawandasse Tula (Shawanwaki/Shawnee) people.
